Resveratrol and Longevity Supplements:

  • Resveratrol received attention for its potential to extend lifespan but has been debunked in recent years
  • There is very little if any direct evidence that resveratrol can increase lifespan
  • Grape seed extract, which contains resveratrol, may have health benefits such as improving vascular function and blood flow

NR, NMN, and NAD Pathway:

  • NR and NMN are considered precursors to NAD and have been explored for their potential to increase NAD levels in cells
  • Taking NR and NMN supplements may increase energy levels throughout the day but there is no direct evidence that they increase lifespan
  • NAD infusions directly into the vein are uncomfortable but can improve sleep and vigor post-infusion
  • The effects of oral NAD supplements on cellular NAD levels are still unclear

Metformin and Rapamycin:

  • Metformin is not taken due to insufficient data supporting its use for increasing lifespan
  • Berberine causes headaches and lowers blood glucose levels
  • Rapamycin is under investigation for its potential to extend lifespan but has significant side effects that outweigh the current data supporting its use

Importance of Basics for Longevity:

  • Quality sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress modulation, social connection, morning sunlight are foundational factors for longevity
  • No supplement or drug comes close to the known improvements in health metrics that come from these basics
